I was asked to create this logo for Jah Works who are based in the North Laines, Brighton. The company sells natural products from Jamaica including teas and herbal remedies.
The logo needed to include the Rastafarian colours to illustrate the fact that the natural remedies are produced in Jamaica. Other elements to be included were a lion, to symbolise strength, and the sun to portray happiness and well being. The design is used on all their product packaging, so I created 2 variations of it, which incorporated the same recogniseable elements and colour scheme but could be used in different spaces within their packaging and future marketing.
Each element of the logo was created in Illustrator using vectors so that it would always appear clearly without any pixelation, no matter what size it is used at. Vectors also allow for clean lines and different colour variations to be tried out easily for proofing and trial purposes. I came up with quite a few variations of the logo elements and fonts used after which the favourite mockup was chosen. I then tweaked the design elements to get the logos just right for their intended purposes.
There is a colour version of the logo shown here but I can create a black and white version from the same artwork elements by reversing out colours to create contrast between the black and white. Often logos need to be represented in grey scale or as single colour variations for use on things like t-shirts, where the printing can be done in a single colour (usually black / white) on different coloured shirts.
