*Updates to Velo29 Events Designs
I recently overhauled the designs for all the Velo29 cycling events. This included creating new artwork for each of their events. These are designed so that each sportive or race has its own brand or identity, while still keeping certain features or elements of the overall Velo29 Events brand consistent throughout.
A lot of illustration work was put into creating visuals to represent landmarks or key elements of the events. The designs also had to translate well in different dimensions or aspect ratios. They were used as posters, Facebook ads and the web pages, so careful consideration was put into the placement and layout of the necessary elements.
I have written a related blog post about some of the individual artwork. You can find out more about the sportive designs here.
Various improvements were made to the website as well. All of the page designs were recreated to better suit their individual identities and extra functionality was added to improve various aspects. This includes better integration of map/route details and easier event entry etc.
You can also take a look at the new and improved web page designs on the website here.
Cycle Events Graphic and Web Design
The graphic and web designs shown here have been created and maintained for a cycling company called Velo29 Events. They are involved in organising cycling events throughout the UK. While the Velo29 logo had been created before I came on-board, I helped strengthen their brand identity over the years. We’ve been working together on their designs for both online and print based media. I have also designed a lot of posters and signs to promote their cycle events.
The Velo29 Events website is designed to be responsive and accessible on all internet enabled devices. It is created with WordPress using a theme. It was designed using css and bespoke imagery created specifically for their brand. The maps for their races were predominantly created as vectors. This means they can be used in a multitude of sizes without any loss of quality. It also allows me to reorder elements easily for different dimensions. I added further infrastructure to the site by incorporating route maps (TCX and GPX) to allow cyclists to check the route of any sportives or races they plan to enter.
I designed profile maps and 3D view elevation data showing the big climbs to further help cyclists decide which race would be most suitable for them. I am glad to be a part of the expansion of Velo29 Events as they expand and add more exciting cycling events throughout the UK.
Poster Designs and Illustration
A lot of the poster designs required some photo manipulation to create scenes from a combination of different photographs. I had a really good time designing the Nouveau Etape event. I created the artwork for this by combining a wide variety of different landscapes, superimposed the road and added the cyclists to form the illustration / poster design. All the different images had to be matched to use consistent lighting and colour values to blend them into each other to ensure a seemless transition between all the different elements.
Vehicle Livery Design
I also created the vehicle livery / signage for their van by creating bespoke imagery and applying this to a wireframe of their vehicle. This allowed the sign printers to easy produce and apply the designs as per my provided layout. Each section was provided as its own individual piece of artwork scaled to the appropriate size and quality. The van is silver so this had to be taken into consideration in order for all the artwork to look appropriate on a reflective mid-tone surface.
Ripon Cycling Event Branding
I was lucky enough to be able to create the logo and brand identity from scratch for the Ripon Tour Sportive and all of its accompanying illustrations, designs and layouts. The main brief for the Ripon logo was to use a similar colour scheme to Le Tour De France and create an identity that was very loosely affiliated with it as well.
