The Vankru brand was created for a cycling company based in Southampton. I particularly enjoyed working on this project because I had not done any artwork for a bicycle before.
It started at the logical point of the logo design. The brief was to have a logo that incorporated speed and strength into it. I created the logo as a single colour vector design, so that it would remain bold and striking, no matter what it was used on.
I had to consider the elements I was creating for the logo carefully because I knew that they had to be incorporated onto the bike frame as well as being used for other marketing. Each element of the logo was intended to be used as its own entity to create a strong sense of continuity in the brand.
After some tweaking and fine tuning of the logo, we decided on the two variations shown. These were created to fit into standard sizes of circular / square and long / rectangular. I then began work on the bike frame artwork which was really great for me to get stuck into. I produced a number of options for the layout and designs of the bike frame for the client to choose from.
All the elements had to be kept as vectors and a single colour so that they could easily be applied to the carbon fibre frame. After trying a few colour variations we decided to go for the white on black for the initial bike. I later did a new, much brighter frame for the next bike though, so everything you try is useful in the long run.
I also designed cycling kit, wheels / rims and other bits and pieces.
