I created the Eden Paris cd cover and booklet design for his album titled ‘The Inbreaking’. It was a pleasure working with him on this, while tweaking the designs and trying out new things and experimenting with the layout and typefaces. We’re both really pleased with how it turned out. I was very excited to see the final printed copy and listen to the final album.
Photography & image enhancement
Eden had sourced some amazing photography by Donovan Wilson (an Australian photographer) for the album cover. Donovan had captured the cover image by taking a skyward facing photo of some trees towering above by a bonfire. The unseen fire produced the amazing red colouration on the tree trunks, while also showing the stars clearly through the tree canopy. I did some colour correction work on the original photo, to enhance the starry night sky, and to give the upper tree leaves a little more contrast against the night sky.
Another photographer named Greg James took most of the accompanying photos for booklet and of the artist. He did a superb job of capturing the lighting and continuing the theme of the cover image. I carried out some touch-up work to get these photos to work well with the layout. This included cropping them and creating depth of field and blur effects to enhance the lyrics and focal points. It is always a pleasure to work with professional photos, so I’m grateful for the amazing work these guys did.
Album cover artwork & concept
For the back cover, I came up with the concept of white light burning through the cover. This was to help illustrate the album title ‘The Inbreaking’. As a result, this also helped to differentiate between the front and back covers, which used the same photo for consistency.
The inside panels of the foldout cd cover were created as one continuous long panel. This works particularly well when the cover is fully opened with the cd sat nestled into the same background design.
